Islander Family Email - 10-27-17Posted by: Erin Rowan 2 years, 7 months ago
Dear Islander Families,
We appreciate the patience and fortitude of our students and staff as we faced record-breaking heat this week, impacting our classroom environments and activities.
Our mid-semester grading period ended last Friday, and progress reports are being mailed out today. Remember to check Haiku for updated grades, consult your child for their feedback on their own progress, and email or call specific teachers with any remaining questions about grades and achievement. Mid-term progress report grades do NOT appear on the official transcript; semester grades are recorded in January.
Next week is Homecoming Week, with spirit dress days each day (see below), and the pep rally, parade, and home water polo and football games on Friday, including crowning of our King and Queen at halftime Friday night. Homecoming has special meaning here in Coronado, a tight-knit community full of alumni and school supporters, where former students often come back to teach, including your principal :). Please join the parade route along Orange Avenue heading east from 10th Street and cheer on our football team, our classes’ floats, and our Homecoming Court! The parade theme is “Arcades through the Decades”; come check out the classes’ renditions of classic arcade games.
Spirit Dress Days:
Monday: Islander Sports Day (Wear your favorite Islander sports gear or swag you'd wear to an Islander Sporting event).
Tuesday: Halloween (The staff voted on Superheroes if you'd like to participate in our fun group Halloween theme!) Note: Masks will NOT be permitted in class, and students are expected to meet dress code (no fake weapons).
Wednesday: Islander Arts/CoSA Day (Wear you favorite artsy gear, production shirt etc...)
Thursday: NJROTC/America Day
Friday: Class Spirit Day: wear your class shirts!
Friday we have the Pep Rally, Parade, Float Judging, Homecoming King and Queen elections, Halftime production/crowning of king and queen, and the announcement of the Float judging. It's going to be a really great day on campus and around town! Parents who wish to attend our pep rally MUST check in at the front office for safety and accountability reasons, and are subject to limited seating near the freshman class section--PLEASE do not sit in designated student spirit sections!
The Homecoming Dance is Saturday Nov. 4th from 8-11 at the Ruben H. Fleet Science Center. The theme is also "Arcades through the Decades.” Students’ last day to submit permission forms for a non-CHS guest is WEDNESDAY at 3PM. NO EXCEPTIONS!! Last day of purchase for ALL students is Thursday at lunch and after school until 3PM! NO EXCEPTIONS!!
Homecoming Float building: In preparation for the Homecoming Parade after school on November 3, each of our classes is building a float at a community member’s home. Students can access detailed info via class Facebook pages or by emailing class advisors--9th grade, Bradford.Couture@coronadousd.net; 10th grade, Matthew.Stoever@coronadousd.net; 11th grade, Grace.Kim@coronadousd.net; 12th grade, Nathan.Aldworth@coronadousd.net. Float building is meant to promote class unity and healthy competition, and not to interfere with priorities of homework, academic or athletic commitments/success, and good citizenship. Students of any particular class who interfere with the building of another class’s float or who threaten the safety of classmates or Coronado citizens face school and/or police consequences. Let’s keep it positive and have fun!
Don’t forget winter sports are fast approaching! If your son or daughter is interested in basketball, soccer or girls’ water polo, please check the ISF website www.islandersportsfoundation.com for try-out times, schedules and much more. We are actively recruiting Islander girls interested in playing basketball or soccer. We remind all athletes that they must be cleared with the necessary physical and confirmation page turned in to the student store at break or lunch. If you have any questions please contact our Athletic Director, Robin Nixon at email@example.com
