Period E 10:00 - 10:28 (28) Period 1 10:33 - 11:02 (29) Period 2 11:07 - 11:36 (29) Period 3 11:41 - 12:09 (28) Lunch 12:09 - 12:49 (40) Period 4 12:54 - 1:23 (29)

Last week’s Lockdown Drill:  We are very appreciative of the swift and efficient staff and student response to the lockdown drill announcement yesterday.  By 10:06 AM, our administrative team and School Resource Officer Sherri Mannello had checked all school buildings and could verify that the campus was locked down and nearly all students and staff concealed behind locked doors and covered windows.  From our perspective, when classrooms were silent and occupants well hidden, it was difficult to tell if anyone was present—the aim of locking down.  We are following up on facilities and process needs, and continue to learn best practices with new research emerging.  Superintendent Mueller will be inviting you to a discussion on district and school safety on Monday, March 5; more information to follow.

School Walkouts and CHS Student Participation:

Coronado High School includes the following as part of our Student Learning Outcomes:

Coronado High School will prepare its graduates to be:

2. Collaborative workers who will

  • be active listeners

  • be able to understand other perspectives

  • be able to contribute in a group situation toward a common goal

4. Responsible citizens who will

  • have an awareness of the world’s various viewpoints, belief systems, and cultures

  • contribute their time, energy, and talents to improve the quality of life in the community

  • show empathy and concern for the members of their school community

  • exhibit honesty, integrity, and personal accountability

We recognize that our students’ engagement in current events and community and social concerns aligns with our goal that students feel and demonstrate that they have an impact on their communities.  We are aware of CHS students organizing to participate in a demonstration planned for March 14th.  Our aim is to uphold school policies and students’ First Amendment rights, with student safety at the center.  Therefore, we are:

  • Empowering students to coordinate activities

  • Encouraging students to clarify their goals and plan on-campus settings for their participation

  • Providing opportunities for students to ask questions and be heard by school staff and leadership

  • Recognizing and accommodating students’ rights to not participate

We have concerns about students’ safety demonstrating off campus, unsupervised, and we are committed to creative solutions to meet students’ aims to be heard, visible, and actively involved in activities on the grounds of CHS.  We will continue dialogue with our students.
