Dear Islander Families,
Happy Spring! We wrapped up our Winter Sports season with some playoff defeats, but we remain incredibly proud of the journeys of our teams and their dedicated coaches. I'm amazed that we are already entering into our third sports season--a sign of the passing of two-thirds of our school year.
Spring brings many activities and events at CHS and district wide.
We are very excited about our Career Awareness Day activities this Thursday. Students will come to school on a Late-Start Schedule, attend E (if enrolled in E period) and first period, and then attend two panels of professionals sharing their career journeys. Students selected the career fields they prefer through our Naviance program or on our counseling page on the CHS website. We are grateful to the MANY community members who are joining us to share their experiences with CHS students. Here is the schedule for Thursday:
Period E: 10:00-10:28
Period 1: 10:33-11:02
Career Panel 1 (hosted by 2nd period teachers/students will be assigned to classrooms): 11:07-12:09
Career Panel 2 (hosted by 4th period teachers/students will be assigned to classrooms): 12:54-1:56
Period 6: 2:01-2:30
Period 7: 2:40- 3:33
Thanks to CHS Student and Chelsea's Light Foundation Student Ambassador Lauren Kaplan, we are also proud to host Brent King, father of Chelsea King and and founder of Chelsea's Light Foundation as an inspiring speaker for a special optional assembly on Thursday, March 3. If your student is interested in attending the assembly in lieu of the first career panel on that day, please email email@example.com. For more information on the mission of Chelsea's Light Foundation, please see http://chelseaslight.org/about-us/visionmissioncore-values/
Counselors have begun the process of registering students for next year's courses, starting with juniors/incoming seniors. Please see information available on our website regarding online learning opportunities, if your student is interested in learning more and applying for online independent study courses at CHS.
Please support our schools by becoming involved in our annual CSF (Coronado Schools Foundation) Telethon on the evening of Thursday, March 10. There will be food and activities in our quad and performances in the theatre. Pledge your support at www.csfkids.org.
The Junior/Senior Prom will be held April 16, 2016 at University of San Diego. Students must clear outstanding tardies and absences in advance of purchasing their tickets.
AP exams will be administered at CHS between May 2-13, 2016. Late testing (in case of illness/emergency) will be May 18-20. Students may register for these OPTIONAL exams online until March 24, 2016.
Have a wonderful week!
