Islander Family Email - 4/18/16

Dear Islander Families,

We are grateful to the junior class (2017), advisors Breanne Carlisle and Kellie Moore, faculty and parent chaperones, and the staff of USD Hahn Center and SOS Entertainment for hosting a successful and safe Junior/Senior Prom on Saturday night.  As always, our students conducted themselves with grace, danced their socks off, and looked smashing in their formal attire!

Did you know that our students not only compete in CHS-sponsored CIF athletics, but in a host of club sports as well?  CHS students compete in Rugby, Beach Volleyball, Surfing, Sailing, and Cheer, with the support of community members and parents.  Our students also represent CHS in non-athletic pursuits such as Improv, Chemistry Olympiad, Mock Trial, Model UN, Math Competitions, Academic League, Robotics, essay and oratorical contests, juried art exhibits, Del Mar Fair, etc.  Go Islanders!

The district calendar for school year 2016-17 will be voted on by the School Board at this week’s meeting.  Please plan, pending approval, for the first day of school for students to be August 25, 2016, and graduation to be Thursday, June 15, 2017.

CHS is proud to host a One Dollar For Life fundraiser the week of April 25-29.  Students will have an opportunity each day that week to contribute $1 or loose change to support development projects abroad, in which some of our students will be participating in Nicaragua this summer.  Here’s a description of the organization:  One Dollar For Life (ODFL) helps American students address third world poverty. It does that by giving them the tools to hold fundraisers in their schools where each student has the opportunity to give just one dollar. ODFL then uses those funds to build schools and other infrastructure projects in the developing world. The result is bigger people here and a better world “out there.”

Coronado High School is seeking two parents to serve on the School Site Council.  Elected parent representatives will join CHS students and certificated and classified staff members to oversee and approve the CHS budget and Strategic Plans in two-three meetings per year.  Please email by Thursday, April 21 if you are interested in candidacy for a two-year term.  Elections will be held next week and we will meet on Monday, May 2 at 2:45 PM with new members.

Thank you, and have a wonderful week!
