Dear Islander Families,
Congratulations to the students elected in new positions in ASB for 2018-19, and to all students who applied for and were accepted into the ASB class. This week students are campaigning for class offices, with elections on Friday. We want to remind students that ASB and class officers are a few of many forms of leadership on our campus. Students may initiate or lead clubs; serve as athletics, robotics, math, or Academic League captains; serve on boards and panels for school and community organizations; or simply lead by example! We encourage students to approach a faculty member with their new ideas to increase students awareness and involvement at CHS.
April is National Poetry Month! Stop by the library for a poem-to-go, check out a book of poetry, or participate in Thursday’s “Poem in Your Pocket Day” and hand out some literary love to friends (Ms. Moore has been known to pass out poetry in stores and restaurants :)). Here’s a link to a great poem about what happens when you are absent from class: https://www.loc.gov/poetry/180/013.html
This Thursday is our annual Freshman Shakespeare Competition; 9th graders will present Shakespeare monologues and compete for prizes in an annual all-freshman assembly.
On Friday our ASB is hosting a Spring Carnival on campus before lunch. There will be a variety of fun stations for students to visit and food trucks with snacks for sale (students wishing to purchase food should bring money). NOTE: ALL students who want to participate on inflatable activities MUST have a parent-signed permission slip in hand (provided to students tomorrow in 2nd period). This event kicks off next week’s pre-testing DeStress Fest, in which we emphasize mindfulness, playfulness, and relaxation with events at break and lunch on the quad.
On Friday before the Carnival we will hold a brief meeting with all seniors to orient them to end-of-year activities, expectations, and deadlines. Information given to students will be distributed to families as well!
Next Wednesday, MAY 2 at 7:30 AM in the CHS Theatre, is a MANDATORY pre-registration session for ALL STUDENTS TAKING AP exams. During this session students will fill out required forms to save time on exam days.
April is the Month of the Military Child! This is a special time for families, schools, and the community to recognize our unique military youth population.

Community members from Rotary and students from our Interact Club will be working on campus beautification projects at our school. If you have ever missed a day of school, excused or unexcused, you are invited to participate. If you owe a Friday School detention, lunch detention, or tutoring sessions that you have not served for uncleared absences or tardiness, you SHOULD attend. Please sign up with Mrs. Kirk in the office or email email@example.com if you plan on coming. You must attend the entire session from 8 AM – 12 noon. Please bring schoolwork; if we finish our campus beautification projects early we will have study time where you will have an opportunity to work on your homework.
