Islander Family Email - 5/14/18

5/14/18

Dear Islander Families,

We are in our second week of AP (Advanced Placement) exams through Friday, May 18, with makeups and late-testing the week after.  Students taking AP exams are expected to attend class before and after exams where applicable.

CAASPP (The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress for 11th graders) and CAST (The California Science Test for seniors) testing will take place next week, from Monday, May 21 until Thursday, May 24.  11th grade students will test in their English and Math classes.  12th grade students will test in their GOV/ ECON classes.  9th and 10th grade students are not taking the CAASSP or CAST tests.  There are some audio portions to the tests, and we will provide earphones for students.  However, students may want to bring their own earphones for comfort during testing.  If a student wants to bring their own earphones they must have an analog audio plug connection.  Earphones cannot have a digital connection similar to in iPhone 7 or 8.

NOTE ALTERNATIVE SCHEDULE:  During the week of Monday, May 21, we will have four days of block periods to accommodate testing:

  • Monday, May 21: Periods 4, 5, 6, 7
  • Tuesday, May 22:  Periods E, 1, 2, 3 (as normal)
  • Wednesday, May 23:  Periods 4, 5, 6, 7 (as normal)
  • Thursday, May 24 Periods:  E, 1, 2, 3

CHS offers limited summer school for remediating failed courses, and registration has opened!  If your student failed a history, english or math course, he or she is eligible for our summer school. Please contact your student’s counselor for registration forms and information. Summer School runs from June 18 to July 27, 9am to 1pm daily, and attendance is mandatory until a student completes their required course.

Prom tickets are currently on sale and will be sold through May 23 for students purchasing tickets for non-CHS guests and May 24 for CHS juniors and seniors (sophomores and freshmen may attend as guests of upper-grade students).  Our deadlines are firm!  DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE:  https://chs.coronadousd.net/news/prom-2018-flyer-permission-forms/
