Islander Family Email - 5/30/18

May 29, 2018

Dear Islander Families,

We hope you enjoyed a long Memorial Day weekend, with remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives serving our country in the military.

Thank you to our junior class, Grace Kim and the crew of staff and admin chaperones who ensured we had a safe and successful Prom!

Thank you to all students who participated in Advanced Placement and state testing over the past three weeks and the staff members who supported them; we feel confident that our students’ performance will reflect their preparation and investment in coursework.  Students will have access to AP scores beginning July 5.  Please see the College Board website for more information on scores release and access.

Friday is our annual junior/senior Powderpuff Pep Rally after 4th period and game (7PM at the stadium).  There is limited gym seating for guests at the pep rally, who must check in at the front office with valid ID to be issued a pass. We remind students to be safe and respectful during all aspects of the competition!

CHS offers limited summer school for remediating failed courses, and registration has opened!  If your student failed a history, English or math course, he or she is eligible for our summer school. Please contact your student’s counselor for registration forms and information. Summer School runs from June 18 to July 27, 9am to 1pm daily, and attendance is mandatory until a student completes their required course.

Senior Announcements:  We are excited to inaugurate a new senior activity this year!  On Monday, June 11, students will report to school at 1:45 in caps and gowns and process through Village Elementary and Coronado Middle School to high-five their former teachers and give younger students a glimpse of what lies ahead!  Seniors will then attend Senior Awards in the theatre.  We are looking forward to this connection and possible new tradition!

Cap and gown distribution happens today (Wednesday) at lunch!  Any students who did not order/in need of caps and gowns for graduation should see Mr. Silverman.

As we approach the end of the year, students are reminded that the CHS campus is closed after school hours/activities and monitored under the jurisdiction of Coronado Police Department.  Students on campus without permission and supervision risk being cited for trespassing or vandalism.  Please be safe and smart and respect our beautiful school facilities!
